Mark your calendar - 2016 is going to be good! The 2016 Central Ontario Agricultural Conference is packed with an outstanding line up of speakers, panelists and agri-business exhibitors. Be sure to attend on March 3 and March 4, 2016 at the Automotive Building, Georgian College, Barrie Campus. The conference is organized by farmers for farmers, and highlights farm business information, resources and experts. This year there will be over 40 sessions to choose from.
March 3 is Livestock Day and highlights include:
Dairy: trade expert Peter Clark on Getting Ready for the Trans Pacific Partnership. Learn from Dr, Don Hoglund's experiences as a veterinarian and international animal trainer on livestock handling and the globally successful Dairy Stockmanship Program. Additional sessions include: Improving Pregnancy Rate, Quality Forage and Storage.
Sheep producers can join sessions on Choosing the Right Genetics and Keeping the Most Important Records with Sheep Specialist Delma Kennedy; Farm Family Investing for Retirement; Phil Smith of Breezy Ridge Farms on Working Towards Greater Profitability and an "Ask the Expert" panel of experienced sheep producers.
Beef farmers can hear about the latest information on Antimicrobial Resistance and Effects on Antimbiotic Use in the Beef Business from Dan Ferguson, Beef Farmers of Ontario. Learn about VG Meats and Longo's Local Food Fund project, and how Bryan Gilvesy, YU Ranch successfully raises and markets 100% grass-fed beef. Dr. Laura Beveridge, Farm and Food Care Ontario will discuss the IMPACT resources that are available to beef, dairy and sheep farmers.
March 4 offers the Crops, Farm Fresh, Organic and Equine programs. Features include:
Crops: Seed Treatment Regulations with Stephen Denys, Pride Seeds; Agronomy Cage Match between Peter Johnston, Greg Stewart and Henry Olechowski; Grain Outlook and Marketing with Moe Agostino. Additional sessions include Growing Forward 2 and Phosphorous Loading.
Organic and Farm Fresh: Hear how our approach to the nation's number one health crisis has gotten it wrong....The Dorito Effect with author and journalist Mark Schatzker; Nova Free Rangers with Barbara and Brian Aaron; Green Legacy with Rob Johnson; a panel discussion on Family Business - it's Complicated!; Market Trends and Culinary Makeover.
Equine: Join Dr. Sid Gustafson, author and teacher, practicing in Montana with Veterinary Clinic of Big Sky and Equine Guelph. He is an expert on horse behaviour and medication ethics. Gayle Ecker is Director of Equine Guelph and will share her insights into Horse Welfare and Terry Bowhey of Blue Heron Stables will explore her horsemanship journey and FEEL -facilitated equine experiential learning.
Both days offer sessions with a focus on energy costs and source water protection. Join sessions with Energy and Crop Engineering Specialist, OMAFRA on Reducing My Farm's Electricity Cost; Hydro One Networks Inc. Senior Strategy and Conservation Specialist with SaveONEnergy Programs: 2016 and Beyond; learn about switch grass and from farmers who have implemented "Practical Green Farm Ideas". Get the scoop on the most recent information in the Source Water Protection 101 sessions.
